Become an environmental scientist on Cayuga Lake!   As the junior crew of the M/V Haendel, a working education/research vessel, participants will learn boating skills, explore cool places and legends, and apply their science knowledge as they gain experience as field ecologists!

Program Summary:

Campers will spend each morning exploring the human and natural history of Cayuga Lake aboard the M/V Haendel- the fully licensed host vessel for the Cayuga Lake Floating Classroom Project.  The Floating Classroom works with regional universities and colleges to present high-quality science-based experiences for youth; however, our summer programs also feature art and story-telling, fun and games!  At the beginning of each session, participants learn boating safety and skills, and are introduced to lake-study techniques and activities.  Once everyone feels comfortable, campers will get to set the agenda for the week based on their interests.  We might investigate lake legends, aquatic creatures, or the impact of global climate change on Cayuga Lake.  Along with time on the lake each day, we will visit parks and explore a few streams before they enter the lake.  At the end of each session, campers will have an opportunity to present their findings to family and friends.
